Short answer: a curry is a thick, fragrant sauce with meat, seafood or vegetables, eaten with plain rice, naan bread or paratha. A biryani is a complete rice dish: rice and spice-marinated meat are cooked together in layers and arrive in one bowl. A pulao (on our menu, chicken pulao) also combines rice and meat, but cooked in the stock, with a gentler flavour. If you want sauce to mop up with bread, pick a curry; if you want a single dish, pick biryani or pulao.
What is biryani?
Biryani is a rice dish from the Indian subcontinent, closely linked to Mughal cooking. Rice and meat marinated in yoghurt and spices are cooked in layers, so every forkful has a bit of everything.
At Tropical Global there’s chicken, beef, mutton, prawn and vegetable biryani.
How is pulao different?
In a pulao the rice cooks directly in the meat’s stock, with fewer layers and lighter seasoning. It’s a good choice if you want the comfort of a rice dish without the intensity of a biryani. On the menu it’s listed as chicken pulao.
When should I choose a curry?
Choose a curry when you want a saucy dish and the freedom to pair it your way. We have chicken, beef, mutton and prawn curry, plus a mixed vegetable curry, and a side for each:
| Side | What it is |
|---|---|
| Plain rice | White rice to balance the sauce |
| Naan bread | Soft, oven-baked Indian bread — great for dipping |
| Paratha | Flaky, layered flatbread with a slight crisp |
A tip for groups: order a curry and a biryani, share them, and add a naan for the table.
Are there vegetarian options?
Yes: vegetable biryani and mixed vegetable curry, plus the sides — rice, naan and paratha. On the menu, vegetarian dishes are marked with a leaf.
